After weeks you’re at your wits end, trying to sit still while at work, trying not to look uncomfortable at dinner, trying to act as though there isn’t a problem while with friends and family.  You’ve tried the usual home treatments and you’ve seen the advertisements and bought the medication, yet still you find yourself suffering.  Pain while you’re gong to the bathroom, pain while you’re not going to the bathroom.  It’s time to face facts.  You’ve developed a case of bleeding hemorrhoids and they’re not going away.

Though most of the time they will disappear on their own, some people just don’t have it that easy.  The problem refuses to go away without a fight, which means it isn’t something you can put off any longer.  You need to call your doctor and start discussing treatment options.  Relax and remember that this still isn’t a big deal.  While you may not be keen on visiting the doctor, unless your problems are severe, it won’t take more than a visit or two to get everything under control and shouldn’t take too much out of your wallet.

You have several options available to you.  Talk to your doctor about each bleeding hemorrhoid treatment and figure out which one would be best for your particular condition.  The nonsurgical procedures, or fixative procedures, are simple processes that aim to shrink down the swollen blood vessel, thus alleviating the symptoms of itching and pain, as well as helping to prevent any reoccurrences.

Injection sclerotherapy is one of these fixative procedures.  The doctor will take a specific chemical and carefully inject it directly into the affected area.  The chemical will cause the blood supply to the spot to become cut off.  Without the constant blood supply, the area will shrink and eventually become scar tissue.  This scar tissue offers an extra benefit as it is tougher and will better hold the surrounding tissue in place, which is what prevents problems in the future.  This doesn’t mean you will be problem free permanently, but it does reduce the possibility.

This particular bleeding hemorrhoid treatment works as well as rubber band ligation.  Your physician may suggest injection sclerotherapy when the vessels, though swollen, are still too small for rubber band ligation, yet are not responding to other treatments, if the area constantly bleeds, or if you are older than 70 or have poor health.

Once you have received treatment, you may experience bleeding afterwards.  Don’t worry, as this is normal and will stop by itself and is usually very light.  If you find yourself uncomfortable, you can continue home treatments such as sitting in a warm bath or ask your doctor about mild pain relievers that are acceptable.

Eventually the area will finish healing and as long as you look to preventative measures to keep yourself regular and healthy, this isn’t a problem you should have to worry about again.
