What is the best way to treat hemorrhoids? If you care about what you put into your body, if you take the time to exercise and eat right, chances are that you would rather not turn to medications, artificial products, or invasive procedures. What can you do though? Fortunately, there are a lot of home remedies available that effectively relieve symptoms and help prevent new episodes without chemicals or drugs. One of the best is exercise.

We all know that staying fit is important for the health of our bodies; we may not realize that physical activity is very closely associated with the veins in the pelvic, rectal, and anal regions. When we exercise, we improve our circulation, which allows essential nutrients to be delivered to the body. We improve muscle tone, which provides support and reduces pressure on these areas. We reduce our abdominal fat, which reduces strain during bowel movements. What exercises are the best for avoiding swollen, itching, burning veins?

    • Reverse stomach suck. We all know how to suck in our tummies, but this exercise can help strengthen and tone muscles in the abdomen and lower back to provide proper support for our veins. Start in a modified push-up position, using your knees as support. Inhale and bring your stomach in towards your spine. Hold this position for about thirty seconds – you may need to work up to this, so start with as much as you can. This is very similar to the cat pose in yoga.
    • Spinal stretch. Lie down on the floor on your stomach with your arms out in front of you. Raise your head and arms off the floor – this is also called a “Superman.” Hold for thirty seconds to strengthen your back muscles. This will help reduce your risk of developing swollen veins in your anal region.
    • Buttocks press. These are easy to do no matter where you are, which is a great benefit for those who work at sedentary jobs. Simply inhale and contract the muscles in your buttocks. Hold, breathe out and relax. Repeat this several times to strengthen the sphincter muscles. This makes bowel movements easier and results in less straining.

If you are looking for a safe and effective natural hemorrhoid treatment, exercise should be at the top of your list. Diet is important, and herbal remedies can be very helpful, but exercise provides the most benefits for your entire body.
