It can be extremely frustrating to deal with hemorrhoids. The pain, the itching, the burning – it can be so uncomfortable that you no longer want to do the things you love. Fortunately, this condition is very treatable, especially if you start early. And best of all, you don’t need drugs, chemicals, or other costly therapies. There are very effective remedies, and you may even have two of the best right in your home now.

Aloe vera and witch hazel have been used for generations to relieve itching, burning, and swelling due to a number of different issues. They are particularly effective when dealing with inflamed veins in the anal region. When you need immediate relief, both of these options will help. How do you use them, and where can you find good products containing these two natural ingredients?

First, witch hazel. This can be found at any drug store as either a liquid extract or in ointments, creams, or medicated pads. Witch hazel is derived from the bark and leaves of a shrub called hamamelis virginiana and is used as a remedy for everything from insect bites to acne. Women who have just given birth are routinely given medicated pads soaked with this extract for soothing and healing the torn perineum. When applied topically, it is excellent for reducing the itching and burning associated with hemorrhoids. If you purchase the liquid extract, you can soak cotton pads and apply them directly for instant relief, as well as for moistening your toilet tissue. This helps clean and soothe the area after bowel movements and prevents the irritation caused by rough, dry toilet tissue. This is an inexpensive and invaluable home remedy for this and other conditions.

Versatility and instant relief is also characteristic of aloe vera. This is a succulent plant native to northern Africa, which has been used for centuries for its healing properties. Many people use it to treat burns, including sunburns, open wounds, and inflamed swollen anal veins. It cools, soothes, and relieves itching, all of which are extremely frustrating for people with this condition. The best way to use aloe is to get the gel straight from the plant. You pick off one of the spiky stems and peel back the skin on one side. Apply the gel directly to the affected veins. If you do not have an aloe plant, then you can find 100% pure aloe vera gel in health food stores. Make sure to get 100% pure gel, though, because you do not want added scents or dyes in that area.

If you want to pursue natural hemorrhoid treatment, witch hazel and aloe vera are must-haves. They should be staples in every household because of their many uses.
