Many people are embarrassed to admit that they have them; they don’t want to go to the doctor because they are afraid that they might have to undergo painful or expensive procedures. About three-quarters of all Americans will have this condition at some point in their lives, so there is nothing to be ashamed of. And because the most effective remedies are those you can easily find in your home or health store, you don’t have to worry about invasive therapies.
In this case, simple is better. With just a few carefully chosen ingredients from the health food store, you can be on your way to relief. Try the following home remedies to treat swollen and irritated veins:
Hawthorn Tea. For this unique brew, you will need a half ounce of hawthorn berries and flowers, gingko leaves, and butcher’s broom if you can find it. Cover the ingredients with hot water and let steep for five minutes. Strain the water and drink. You can also use these herbs to make a tincture. Tinctures are more potent than teas and can help you find relief more quickly.
To make this tincture, you will need rum or vodka, wide mouth jars, and unbleached cheesecloth or muslin. Put the herbs in the jar and pour in alcohol (you may also use distilled water or vinegar if you choose not to use alcohol). Pour enough liquid to cover the herbs plus another one or two inches. Seal the jar tightly and put in a dark area. To bottle the tincture, strain the herbs out using the cheesecloth, and then put the liquid into a bottle. Take one teaspoon, one to three times daily to relieve the pain of hemorrhoids. You may mix it with water, juice, or tea.
St. John’s Wort Oil. Add one ounce of St. John’s Wort oil to eight drops each of chamomile, palma rosa, and cypress essential oils. These can easily be found at natural health food stores. Mix the oils and apply directly to the affected area for soothing comfort.
Calendula Compress. Into one cup of cold water, pour one teaspoon of calendula oil, three drops of chamomile oil, and three drops of carrot seed oil. Soak a soft cotton cloth or pad in the mixture and apply it directly to the affected veins. Do this as often as you can for relief from itching, burning, and swelling.
While these herbs may seem unfamiliar to you, they are standard fare at health food stores and have been used by cultures for generations for natural hemorrhoid treatment.
